Founder – Artistic Director
An Egyptian painter, sculptor, multimedia artist and self proclaimed cultural activists, and founder of Darb 1718. The space was founded in 2008 as a contemporary art and culture centre located in the Fustat area of Old Cairo.
Dana Alawneh holds an M.A. in Gender and Women’s Studies in the Middle East and North Africa from the American University in Cairo (2015), and a B.A. in English and German Literature from the University of Jordan in Amman (2003).
Between 2007 and 2012, she worked in the cultural sector at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Berlin. She Currently works as Project Manager at Something Else-OFF Biennale Cairo.
Project Consultant – Deputy Director of Darb 1718
Reem Hatem is the Deputy Executive Director at Darb 1718 Contemporary Art & Culture Center. A graduate of English Literature from Cairo University (2008) , she is an aspiring actress; and theater performer and director. Her experience in theatre includes both practice and education. She has directed three contemporary plays – “Bebasata Keda: Stories of the Revolution,” “Men Gher Asamy [Nameless],” and “Qos Qazah [Rainbow]” – which while simple, have a depth that explores a myriad of layers. She experiments with convention and constantly pushes the envelope to turn it into a contemporary piece.
Egyptian / Dutch visual artist, interior and graphic designer. Lives and works between Paris and Cairo. Her work is a self-conscious moment of reflection. It questions identity and social matters. Amira holds degrees in Interior Design from Helwan university – Cairo, in Graphic design from Rietveld academy – Amsterdam and MA research in ” The Art of image and the living ” from the university Paris 1 – Sorbonne. Currently she is the Art Director at Darb 1718 contemporary art & culture center and at Something Else – OFF Biennale Cairo.
Architect, cultural consultant, jury member, co-founder of « Maison de l’Image » and « Shutter Party, Olfa Feki Started promoting photography from a national level with the platform Shutter party (website and photographic competitions for young photographers) and planning workshops (Patrick Zachman (Magnum) World Press Photo, NOOR agency …) to an international level ( ‘Visa Pour l’Image’ in Perpignan. Arles festival in France, Dak’art biennale in Sénégal and others ).
Co founder of the ‘Maison de L’Image’, first and only institution dedicated to image in Tunisia. she often organizes workshops in collaboration with the World Press Photo, with the most famous intenational reporters and artistic directors. Curator of the exhibition « Regards posés sur les Hammams «, «View of Tunisia» in Tunis «Monochrome» in Dakar….etc, Olfa Feki has been approached by several institutions to curate several exhibitions such «Klee, Macke Moillet » Bardo Musuem, Tunisia, « Trop visible » and « Next to here » in partnership with the Goethe Institut and the frensh institut.
Olfa Feki is constantly approached to organize wokshop, festivals, exhibitions and to do evaluate portfolios. Skilful, creative and dynamic, Olfa Feki, barely 25 years old, became a reference in the photographic field in Tunisia and overseas.
